I've recently been going onto pinterest and looking through all the writing/drawing prompt lists on there. I also check out the prompt list tags on Tumblr from time to time.

Honestly, I usually get fic ideas from songs I listen to. Rarely do I get an idea from a website or generator.

Question

If someone says they will try to make it to an occasion, but they are not sure they can, does it ever mean anything other than "there is no way in hell that I'll be there!"?

I would never assume it meant that. I would assume they want to come but have something else that might interfere so they are letting you know just in case they don't show or show up late.

I think it depends on the person. One person I know who says this frequently, it absolutely means what you said because he's a jerk and I think it's some sort of power play to not just say he's not going to come, and keep everyone guessing.

The other one, she comes about half the time. She has a super stressful/demanding job, and I know she genuinely wants to come to stuff, but she sometimes just can't.

Depends entirely on the person and their personality, track record with invitations like that, job or general life circumstances.

I mean, if you're talking to someone who's reasonably honest and communicates directly, sure? If I don't want to go/can't go and have no intention of showing up someplace, I just tell the person who invited me that I can't make it and to have fun. Because I'm an adult.

Has anyone tried those Loop ear plugs? I get ads for them so much they are sinking into my subconscious and now I'm thinking of trying them.

Cat question

My cat appears to still be in mourning over my dad. She seems really convinced that one of these days mom and I are going to just go away too. She's just on top of us all the time, clinging to us. I'm worried about her and I'm not sure how to help.

I would usually only say that if I'm genuinely unsure if I can - like if I have a big project at work and I'm not sure if I'll have to work overtime instead, or I have an engagement beforehand that I can't leave early from and I'm unsure of the timing of. But I will usually say why if there are those specifuc reasons.

Sometimes I will also say it if I know I'll be totally worn out at around that time and I think I might just need to lie down instead of going. But that is rarer.

Even though I know that some peoe might say this as a way of avoiding saying 'no' to an invitation outright, I've found that's rare personally.

Though really you'll only know if you can answer the question 'does the person typically say this and then not show up to things?'

Um... yes? It very often means exactly what they said: they'll try to go but aren't sure yet that they can.

I've often said this, found out that YAY!! I can go even though I was doubtful at first (I have more $ than I thought, I'm free on an evening I didn't expect to be, etc), and so I do. I've also said this and, no matter how badly I wanted to go, I was too broke or I didn't have transportation or I had to work or whatever, and so I couldn't.

It's OK to take people at face value a lot of the time, it really is.

I'm looking for an old daria fic, the plot was that while on a field trip Jane and daria became survivors of a nuclear war. At one point they end up with other survivors in an old church. Can anyone help me find this? Please? My google-fu is weak.

No, it's an imgur issue. For some reason, it's frequently refusing to load images if a person is using a VPN.
