IDK, maybe your dad just wants to talk to you about the thing that he's buying and is using that as an opener? Esp. if he's not generally that good at conversation. In your place I'd probably ask him some questions about what he's planning to do with it to break up the lecture-feel, or I'd try changing the subject entirely.

I get that dad wants to make conversation, but the whole point is that he's doing it by TALKING. Your suggestion is to ask questions to break the dad's talking up into less overbearing chunks...when OP's whole point is that men should talk less and listen more. Why isn't it on him, if he wants to talk, then he should ask OP questions, and really listen to what she has to say.

Yeah, people always expect the women to gently educate and guide the men into behaving like decent adults. Funny how that works. Like how is a grown ass man supposed to know that delivering a long one-sided lecture isn't proper conversation? Gosh, it's impossible for a man to figure this out unless OP tells him.

Yeah, both of those are way more reasonable than expecting a fully grown adult to understand that lecturing someone else about info they didn't ask for isn't a conversation or the best way to engage someone! That expectation is so horribly unreasonable to ask, but only of men! Standards for women have to be a lot higher because of their tits.

Not to mention that of course OP should tell her father, because most men are so very reasonable and rational about being told they're wrong and will 100% correct themselves immediately when a woman asks them to. It certainly couldn't be any other way for OP, who has men in her life who don't listen to her. They'd definitely listen to her THIS time!
