In general screenwriting just used to be better. I remember reading "Tender Comrades: A Backstory of the Hollywood Blacklist" and marvelling at the number of people who walked into studios with a high school education, worked in the copy room or something, and then just wrote a script and had it made.

... why would there be anything wrong with you? There are lots of pairings that I ship but don't want to actually imagine having sex for whatever reason. Shipping doesn't mean "I want to read about these characters getting down and dirty," it means "I want these characters to be in a relationship." Sometimes you do want to read explicit fics of them doing the nasty. Sometimes you don't, you just want to read soft fluffy G/PG-rated fic of them being cute and domestic together.

I often run into this when it just feels tonally off from the typical canon stories to have the characters explicitly going there, but it’s also inconsistent because I will sometimes want smut about Disney princesses? It can also just be one of the characters having a personality that makes it hard to imagine what they’d do in the bedroom.

Yeah, I like smut just fine for some pairings and have no interest for others. I think that's pretty normal as long as you're not going "oh het pairings should get it on but queer pairings should just sweetly hold hands" or something.
