I kinda wish this story was focused on Jiang Cheng instead. Wei Wuxian is a very good character, but I only found him interesting up to his death. His post-resurrection storyline was pretty meh for me. I think I'd have preferred him more as a side character.
Now Jiang Cheng. Firstly, he's so well set up as an underdog protagonist - unwanted child who has to work hard for everything, but is doomed to be overshadowed by his golden child prodigy step-brother. And then he's brought to his lowest point - his entire family is dead, his clan is barely hanging on, he has no support, his only alliance is a tenuous one with the most asshole clan - he has to rebuild everything with nothing but handicaps to his side. And then post-timeskip we find out he succeded. Okay no, you can't just skip over that. I need details. I want the full story of his trials and tribulations and how he overcame them in spite of everything. That sounds way more interesting to me.
SB: It's Jiang Cheng. The fandom would flay me for not despising him.
