Agreed.

Mal was extremely hypocritical without any justification. And Joss wanted to kill Jayne off early and executive intervention had them keeping the character so Joss spent as much time as he could making Jayne as crude and antagonistic as possible (which did no good service to Jayne.) Fillion apparently isn't the greatest of persons either.

I think in the hands of a good writing room (one that kicked Joss out) and enough time they could have made the Serenity more a found family. BUT even the 'canonical EU' stuff has the entire crew breaking apart because of Mal. Ah well.
