(Anonymous) 2023-06-29 12:27 am (UTC)(link)But personally, I've never understood why this got so popular. I've always found it boring and unimaginative.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-29 07:33 am (UTC)(link)Jumpcut to me in my mid-20s, feeling grateful that as big of a HP fan as I was I didn't get involved in the fandom because apparently there's a BNF who's an actual published author now and she had a very shitty rep as a HP BNF...and apparently she's the author of those LOTR Bridget Jones' Diary parody fics.
What a small world lol
As someone with no personal attachment to Cassandra Clair nor was I ever in any fandoms she was in/my fandom spaces were never affected by her...it's been super interesting to see the whole discourse around her and her career (as both a BNF in a huge fandom and a fanfic writer who became a successful published author).
I respect that she has the talent and drive to garner a dedicated fan following and a rather successful career, but holy shit, it's...wild the sort of reputation she has regarding those who hate on her or criticize her. Because it's not like she doesn't deserve some of the negativity directed towards her.
Like, I think back to fandom dramas I actually witnessed/lived through and to have your fandom BNF life be well known/attached to your very public career...damn, I really don't know if I could ever live life easily/comfortably/with enthusiasm.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-29 11:18 am (UTC)(link)I actually reread a couple earlier this year after remembering about them, and someone smarter than me can probably put a little essay together about how steeped they are in the early 2000s culture of casual but constant homophobia, without really being that themselves.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-29 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)Huh. I think I re-read them in my 20s but I honestly don't have the strongest memory of them.
I don't want to re-read them but I'm intrigued by what you got out of re-reading it. LOL
Like, based off what I can remember as dick jokes via The Carrot with Merry (and The Hobbits in general I think?), I would be interested if anyone ever wrote an essay/made a video essay on said topic.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-29 01:42 pm (UTC)(link)Anyway, I also liked those. Legolass: my hair brush broke. Boromir: I'm still not a king. There was something about carrots and hobbit I think. I don't remember the ships tho besides Frodo/Sam.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-29 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)She might be not the most likable but that's it.

(Anonymous) 2023-06-30 12:58 am (UTC)(link)This is the most ignorant and asinine thing I’ve read in a while.
