Oh god, why are some JC fans like this? Look, I like him a lot as a character but some of you need to stop pretending like liking him is some rare special thing that gets you bullied and persecuted by the complete rest of the fandom when it's not the case. Liking him is actually pretty damn mainstream, hell, not even people who like JGY or XY get a lot of shit.
And... I mean, I don't even like WWX particularly much but did you kinda miss the ways he was abused by his stepmom? And since you brought it up that you want to know how JC succeeded despite everything, I mean, a huge part of that was because WWX sacrificed his own golden core/martial arts for him etc. - you don't really need to put one character down to lift another up, really.

Like, sure you are absolutely entitled to have preferred JC as the protag- hell, my favourite character whom I wanted to read more about is NHS but JC is one of the most popular characters in that fandom, liking him over WWX is really not that deep or frowned upon.

I like JC. I think he's interesting. I wouldn't mind discussing him but I've seen way more people going all "Why does everyone hate him?" (usually followed by a big rant about how he's misunderstood) than I see people actually hate him?

You're arguing in bad faith/are missing the point.

The OP said JC is a poor downtrodden unwanted child who is overshadowed by his golden child step brother and ... I mean, that's just factually wrong. A golden child would not be viciously abused by their stepmother. And I never said WWX suffered MORE, the OP kept repeating how much more JC suffered than WWX and how much harder he had it when that wasn't exactly the case - and a lot of the reasons JC succeeded in the end HAD to do with WWX's sacrifices. That's not putting JC down, that's just putting things in perspective.

The OP did not "keep repeating it". The secret says two things about WWX: that OP finds him less interesting post-death, and yes, the single golden child comment--which I agree is inaccurate phrasing. That whole family was a shitshow of bad dynamics and WWX absolutely got the worst of it, but it's not like JC was /favored/ by comparison. Part of the scapegoat/golden-child dynamic is the pitting against each other, always being compared to each other; Madam Yu expressing notions like "how come that piece of shit is doing better than YOU", for a rough example, is not favoring JC even if it's not actively (physically) abusing him like she did WWX. And then there's JFM's version of "favoring", which was of course not abusive but still damaging.

In the greater scale, outside of bad family dynamics, WWX was pretty commonly seen as better than JC at everything, which I /suspect/ is what OP was attempting to get at.

The WWX and JC dynamic and all of the ways it's desperately broken fascinates me, and just cannot possibly be broken down into "only one can TRULY suffer here"

OP was the only one to say one was preferred over the other and I never once said that only one of them did truly suffer. I mean, you keep making up arguments I never made.
