Do people love it? I played Odyssey really late - like right before Valhalla was about to be released - and fell in love. So of course I immediately pre-ordered Valhalla. I gave that game a solid try, I really did, but I cannot for the life of me see it as a fun game. It's beautiful, but so boring and bloated and I hated raids so much and I ended up hating my character too. They just weren't likeable! Especially right after playing Kassandra, who for me was just the most likeable human character I had played in a long time.

see I enjoy female!Eivor, bisexing her way across England, but she's not my fave. that said, the recent AssCreed games have suffered in the same fashion as Star Wars prequel hate - a vocal subgroup of diehard fanboys shitting on things they don't like (Bayek is too honorable! Alexios is gay with men and Kassandra isn't naked enough! why play Eivor as a girl when you can be a manly viking?!) so loudly that it muscles its way to become the dominant fandom expression and if you disagree you're an outsider, shit-tier player, whatever. we got Odyseey, Origins, and Valhalla as a bundle so we came in well after most of the furor died down and evaluated the games on their own merits. Odyssey to me is pretty good until you get to the DLC, Origins is my favorite, and Valhalla is my partner's favorite because of F!Eivor. I don't hate any of them, and if an AC game is bloated it just means I'll keep playing longer instead of ending up bereft of content too soon (lookin at you Black Flag).

Bloated to me doesn't mean too much content, it means they threw all sorts of junk in there and the game is bloated and messy. I love Odyssey for how big it is and how I could really sink into that game for a long time. Valhalla just felt messy to me. I'm glad people like it, just not for me.

Funny story, I saw someone complaining about fem!Eivor because "she walked like a man" and "was too butch." Like what? I'm sorry she wasn't a willowy waif who pranced about. *eyeroll*

yeah, that makes sense. I did get that feel from the utterly pointless side quests cluttering the map, but I had to think really hard about whether that was better or worse than fighting pointless battles for Sparta or Athens when neither of them ever can claim all the territory. jury's still out on that.

See, I couldn't get into Odyssey after Valhalla because Valhalla had all kinds of things I enjoyed and... Odyssey couldn't grab me the same way.
