What is your F!S tradition?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-08 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
If you have any.

I like to browse and reply/discuss during my dinner. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be a super busy time here, but it's enjoyable just the same.

Read comments, hope for some decent discourse, then curl up and cry a little because fs anons once again are being arseholes to me and my sanity was already hanging by a thread. One day the self righteous anons on here will be the end of me.i swear it.

Awww nonnie don't let 'em get you down.

I like to picture the really negative ones at 11year old boys and it generally takes any bite away from them. Then I laugh and move on. Because c'mon, who here is going to take any 11 year old boy seriously in any opinion? They have like zero life experience and horrible opinions.

Read secrets, open tabs for the comment threads of secrets I'm interested in as well as the general thread, read comments, reply to something if I have something to say. Keep refreshing the comments every half hour or so to see if there is anything new. Then keep the links open until the morning and refresh once more before closing.

Are you the person who keeps insisting that fandom has to be activism and anyone who doesn't ship your ships must be a bigot?

Can you keep your argument confined to the thread above, please. You don't have to bring drama to every thread.

DA
this was much nicer and better said than what my original reply was going to be lol (I decided silence was the answer for me in this case)

ayrt

I wasn't. But if the person above is that person, I can see exactly why they are getting hostile responses and it isn't because the people here are necessarily arseholes. That person does not come across as a very pleasant person. They are whiney, passive-aggressive and incredibly self-entitled. None of that is pleasant to be around, especially if they start off by insulting everyone else in the comm for disagreeing with them. I'm sure they do have some good qualities, but I think it might be a very good idea for them to take a step back and think carefully about whether those good qualities are enough to make up for their bad ones, and what they might be contributing to the hostility they keep encountering here. Someone disagreeing with you does not automatically make that person a bad person.

Just because someone is repeating the "correct" political talking points according to whatever twitter or tumblr circle they hang out in does not mean they are automatically a good person, let alone one other people are going to enjoy interacting with.

Take this somewhere else, please.

Totally DA here but - what sort of drug are you on anon?

That's a lot of projecting... onto anonymous posts. You do realize you have created a character in your mind, right? With all due respect, but I mean - chill.

If someone here called you bad for something you said (which I have seldom seen happen unless the person said something really blatantly bigoted, racism and such, thankfully) maybe think about it. It's certainly not personal since we're (mostly) all anon in here and no one is getting "cancelled" for a bad or a hot take. But maybe it's worth the self-reflection - the "why do they think I am bad? Where is this anon on the internet coming from?" etc. It's crazy that instead of doing that one would create in their mind the character of a person who is "whiney, passive-agressive and incredibly self-entitled" based on a handful of anonymous posts/replies in assorted days/months/years?.

That is how the "fandom is activism" types come across, though.

I'm sorry you're feeling this way and I get where you're coming from. However, if you're feeling that fragile, maybe being online right now or hanging out in an anon comm might not be the best thing for you. It sounds like it might be a good idea for you to seek out help irl from a therapist or health professional if the crabby comments are getting you that down.

Maybe go watch a show you love, or read a book that lifts up your mood? I've also found that logging off the computer and doing something productive also can help me quite a bit, even if it's just washing the dishes or cleaning the bathroom.

Sorry about that, anon. Self-righteousness is one thing I may be (or come across as being) guilty of, but it's not meant to be personal. In my case, at least, it's a bit of a self-defense mechanism (thick skin due to being ND and chronically online?? maybe) - of course I am right according to myself just as you are right according to yourself. If the both of us can stand our grounds and agree to disagree respectfully that should be ideal. If not, walking away is always possible. Of course, way easier said than done.

My suggestion would be to not take it too personally, and try to "stay afloat" and be mentally healthy enough so that it doesn't hurt you personally. It's a reminder we all need from time to time.

This will probably seem like I'm shit-stirring, but honestly, I often need to remind myself that I actually do believe in my own judgement over most people's. So yes, I might be wrong about something, but if I'm going to take the critical opinions of others to heart then it ought to be people whose opinions I actively value and esteem--not random strangers who I know nothing about beyond that they disagree with me vociferously about Thing.

IA with the comments suggesting taking a minute to have a break and encourage yourself. This comm can get rather heated and some people are just trolling. Sure, consider the perspectives you hear here, I've definitely had conversations on here that changed my mind on something, but take it with a grain of salt— it's a very nitpicky anon comm. Hope you're doing okay!

I'm checking it usually after dinner time or WAY after dinner time.

I am starting my day with F!S, reading it in bed. That's highly unpopular time since it's usually late evening/night for Americans and too early of a morning for most Europeans

Post used to go up 2-3 hours before I went to bed. Now I work nights and the post goes up 2-3 hours before I wake up, so I check comments after I wake up/when I'm getting ready. :)
