I'm not saying I was extremely class conscious, but I also figured the class dynamic, which I did think were pronounced in the book, was sorta the point. That's why Toad getting arresting is so fucking funny, because his privilege doesn't save him at all (and then it does lol). I think I read Pride and Prejudice at the same time, so that might have been why I clocked it.

To a certain extent the book is one of those which prizes the rule of law as a way to sober the upper classes. After going to jail, even though he breaks out, Toad is much less of an asshole because of it.
