To be honest, I kind of get where the OP of that secret is coming from. I was lucky that in the early 2000s, people were commenting a lot more often on sites like Livejournal, FF.NET and Deviantart (where none of them had a like option so it was comment or nothing).
I do like creating works for my own entertainment, but the fandom interaction was still nice to hear from. It was the biggest part of the fandom experience then.

I mostly post my fan art on Tumblr and Pillowfort now, where I usually get likes and nothing else - the same with the few fanfics I have written on AO3. I don't mind not getting any comments, but I gotta admit its certainly a much lonelier experience now that utter strangers just treat fandom creators as 'content providers'.
But yeah - I'll stop when it stops being fun to make things on my own times *shrugs*
