Look, IMO we need to push for progress so that we can see how far we still have to go/how much we've achieved.

The Bud Lite/Mulvaney situation indicates there are still people unwilling to accept trans people as just people.

How we react is going to help shape whether we as a society will progress or regress in terms of LGBTQIA+ representation in modern America.

Sitting back and being like, "Mulvaney should have known better and not do it," not only is victim blamey but it's indication that some people who claim to be progressive/pro-trans right will only act when it's easy/to their benefit.

I know we live in a transphobic society but how can we do more/better when we react with, "well she should have known how this will go down" when transphobes use a small sponsorship to advertise their prejudice?

It's not that Mulvaney took on a sponsorship that would obviously upset the conservative buyers of said product that is the problem.
The problem is the far right will take any opportunity to promote their hate and bigotry and run with it, and Americans at large buy into and say, "well why are trans people existing?"

Don't get comfortable that you're the right kind of queer who won't/don't get the same sort of vitriol/hate/violence as trans people.

I'm Ace but in the closet because my gay friends regularly dead name trans people they know (and even consider as friends) and they routinely crack the same conservative bullshit "have to give space to the nOnBiNaRiEs" jokes.

Like Princess Weekes pointed out in her Anne Heche video, allyship in the LGBTQIA+ community is 1)not a monolith and 2)not really real.

It's easy to get together and organize when you HATE something.
But for some reason when it's time for us to defend each other, not everyone wants to show up. Instead a lot of people use that opportunity to make things about themselves.

Honestly, I don't even have room to be mad at Budweiser. They did what I knew they'd do. Corporations obviously were really only thinking about trying to make more money by trying to appeal to as many consumers as possible, and when members of the far right seized this opportunity to run off their hate, of course Budweiser only did what they thought would save them the most money.

Like, wow, a shitty corporation does something shitty. Not surprising.

Yes, Budweiser should have stuck by Mulvaney and supported her but I'm not surprised. Just rolled my eyes and thought, "yep another day at the giant corporation factory".

And this is why we need to step up and push back on hatred of bigots really wanting to hate on minority groups with no repercussions.

No one should EVER expect any corporations to do the right thing.

Like,a bit off topic but Neymar still has a career after a Nike employee accused him of attempted rape. He remained at the company after the event and then it wasn't until much later after they investigated the whole thing did they sever ties with Neymar.
And they didn't even come forward with WHY they severed ties with him.

We can take the corporation money because how else will any of us live our lives and be active participants in society if we don't (corporations made sure that'd happen), but I stopped giving a shit if these companies will "do the right thing" because oftentimes, they won't.

I'm not sure how you're both advocating for fighting harder and also defending yourself for not reacting when Budweiser didn't do anything. Fighting includes doing so against the people and companies you'd expect shittiness from.

AYRT
Sorry for the crappy wording.

When I said I have no expectations for companies to stand by sponsor allies they asked to promo their product when shit hits the fan, I meant I am never surprised that they don't. Such as Budweiser coming out and saying, "sorry we messed up" and fired the people in Marketing/PR, because so many brands have simply left the attention of people's anger to defend themselves alone. I was not surprised that Budweiser began thinking about the profits they've lost and not on the fact that Dylan Mulvaney was getting threats and that the people behind the dog piling are campaigns by hate groups.

I want these companies to do better and to be held accountable in some way when they do a shitty thing, but I am skeptical there are real ways we can see with our own eyes in real time of these happening.

Like, I knew Budweiser would react the ways they did, but it's still upsetting and scary.
But I think what I meant to say (and totally didn't because I was like "I can't be mad at Budweiser") is that my anger is more directed toward the media for not criticizing Budweiser's reaction more than at Budweiser.
I already am upset at Budweiser for thinking of the brand's profit losses and public image, but it's even more anger inducing at the media's coverage.
Sorry that I completely left that out.
Late at night and I'm rambling without thinking further on my thoughts.
