Are they . . . birds? Hats? Whatever they are, they look kinda cute.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-15 10:45 pm (UTC)(link)
iirc they are in fact hats, like the ones the Smurfs wear.

Ah, that makes more sense. My brain decided they were two-legged jellyfish for some reason.

Welcome to the O-laLalaLalalympics!

The correct name is a phrygian cap, in the French version is a bonnet rouge - they're a symbol of the French revolution.

I always knew Papa Smurf was a revolutionary.

I wish the designers for the mascots would ask more to kids to either vote for their favorite (Japan 2020) or design them (Milano Cortina 2026). After all, they're the public they aim to.

I like that the whole of France went with "THAT'S A CLITORIS!"

I actually laughed at this line, especially since it kinda harkens back to those damn London phalluses, I mean mascots.

Thanks for making this one, secret maker!

I have no opinion about the content of this secret, but woah, secret maker, you've found a color combo that, when paired with my blue-light filter, is almost as fucky and psychedelic as the teal and pink color combo. O_o

The only Olympics mascots I'm even familiar with are the Sydney 2000 ones, which were literally just animals (a kookaburra, an echidna, and a... platypus i think? named syd/ollie/millie for sydney/olympics/millenium, why do i remember this) dressed up for sports. Do other cities not do that!?!?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-16 09:08 am (UTC)(link)
I remember there was a little bit of controversy because they gave the echidna boobs, so they redesigned her.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-17 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
The London ones had a real 'designed by committee' feel to them, in that every aspect of their design _meant_ something - they were grey because they were made from girders from the Olympic Stadium, they were shiny to reflect all the people they met, their bracelets represented inclusion and friendship etc etc etc
Not that these are bad things, but the actual result was so ugly!
I've just looked up the Milan Cortina mascots and they're great! They represent being cute lil stotes, what else could you need?

(Anonymous) 2023-07-16 01:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Idk I think they're kinda cute.
