It wasn't just the one movie, it was the majority of his career as a child actor. He decided that he wanted to try having a normal childhood and his mother refused to let him, dragging him to one audition after another because 1) he was the family's meal ticket and 2) she had her own frustrated ambitions about being an actress and decided to live vicariously through him. And then his father just treated him like shit, with constant bullying and degrading him while his mother pretended it didn't happen.
