The issue is that people sometimes come to all sorts of conclusions from opposite ends of the political spectrum. I've occasionally been in agreement with the immediate goals of people who oppose logging because they think if "the good lord" put forests there, we're desecrating "creation" by laying waste to them.

Don't forget that Hitler and Gandhi were both vegetarians. And, as far as I know, not even for very different reasons. There's an uncomfortable historical cartoon showing a crowd of rabbits, dogs, guinea pigs, and rats doing the Sieg Heil because Germany was the first country to outlaw vivisection. It was attempting to ridicule this as an absurd first world excess. Those crazy romanticist Germans, you know, who think Beagles are too good for medical experiments. And yes, I get the terrible irony. That's exactly my point. Ideas have to be judged on their own merits, not just by asking "who thinks so?"

It's good to go over your motivations carefully when you're randomly surrounded by people you disagree with on absolutely everything else, and they agree with you! But occasionally that happens because no one (as far as I know) chooses their political sensibilities by trying to be evil incarnate.

The Satanic Temple and the minority of fundamentalist Christians who thought wearing masks and getting the covid shots and cancelling all their yearly family gatherings including Christmas were the ethical response to the pandemic were advocating for the same concrete actions, and while I don't think that bothered the satanists (science is right there in the 7 tenets), I can guarantee you that the Christians were getting that thrown in their face with "what the fuck are you doing?? Can't you see who you're keeping company with?" And it's the same for Christians who don't go along with the conservative war against abortion.

Still have to laugh at '#i'm not a feminist but this godless lesbian makes a good point,' though. This world.

[Same Anon As Above]

Ack. Should probably specify that I'm not the AYRT. Hadn't seen the subject line.

Still SA

If it bears mentioning, I think trying to guilt people into donating to charity by pointing out that they aren't subsisting on water and gruel is complete crap, though. And it doesn't surprise me at all when that particular flavor of shame is being spread around by Christians, because the churches made a lot of money that way.

AYRT - Fair enough! I was mostly objecting to conflating tradwives and TERFs anyway. Like, PETA and Nazis may have agreed on one thing, and I don't like either, but they're two separate things with largely different philosophies.

Ah, yes. I agree completely.
