My #1 AA ship will always be Klapollo but I can fully see where Narumitsu gets its popularity from.

As for Phoenix: Bisexuals exist first of all, and pretty sure "gay panic" is a widely known concept? Older Phoenix comes across as more comfortable and potentially bi too. As for Edgeworth: agreed on the autistic aroace vibes actually, but some ace-spec people are demi/gray and do fall in love once in a blue moon (cough, autistic ace 🙋 )

Needless to say, there's a lot of other "hints" such as the "unnecessary feelings" (a classic) the mutual "I NEED to see HIM" feelings and the respect, the friends-to-rivals-to-friends trope, his apparent secret (https://muzyoshi.tumblr.com/post/707343460824432640/miles-edgeworths-secret) etc. When it comes to shipping of course preferences are personal, but as far as subtext goes those two's is very much intentional at the very least.

(sidenote: I have only ever published one Narumitsu fic and it's one-side pining on Miles' part. And probably some on the kink meme years ago but cannot remember ... but I like it regardless)

SA - people's takes are weird, by the way, reading the comments now. "He understands feelings!" seems to imply that if he was autistic he wouldn't and that's a weird take. Of course, that might as well be just a violent reaction to OP's autistic headcanon (and more than that, the secret itself) I think it's fine to agree or disagree with it, but it's not fine to justify that in ways that sound just as, if not more, prejudiced.

Yes, Edgeworth comes across as 1) terribly oblivious to everyone else's romantic feelings 2) someone who is emotionally impaired due to trauma obviously but I think the capitalization of "Does Not Understand" makes it pretty clear that was sarcasm - indeed lack of emotional self-awareness is common in autism and I think this is what they meant: it's just funny for a grown guy to go "thanks to you I am saddled with unnecessary feelings!!" and be such an overdramatic drama queen as he is, particularly when we get an insight into his mind in T&T, so that can be a sign of lack of self-awareness. "Can" be isn't the same as "is" of course, and Edgeworth is autistic as much as he is aroace or Phoenix is straight (= not at all) but I get where OP's hc comes from. It's not mine because I don't diagnose characters but I do identify with him a bit (and needless to say, unfortunately trauma and autism aren't mutually exclusive) so roll with it OP, whatever floats your boat, same for everyone.

That was OP's weird take, really. "He's an autistic aroace who doesn't understand emotions therefore he cannot be shipped".

AYRT - Don't think OP ever said that -- they just meant to say there is no basis for the ship in canon because he is aroace in OP's interpretation or headcanon.

As an autistic ace the secret's wording didn't offend me at all. If anything it comes across as a sort of "playful mockery" (tsundere vibes) or even self-depreciative sarcasm from the POV of someone who can relate to that description.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-17 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah no. "This ship makes no sense because of my headcanons that I confuse with actual canon" is pretty dumb, really.

AYRT - Being unable to realize that a secret written in first-person language merely reflects the OP's views on a given subject (OP's headcanons, OP's preferences and so on) is hardly too smart either but you do you.

Indeed if one views character A as acearo it's understandable that shipping character A feels non-canon compliant according to their reading of the canon material. Character A wouldn't date! Why are you shipping them?! "The most hetero man that's ever hetero'd" doesn't sound too serious either. In short it doesn't sound to me like OP was trying to force anyone to adhere to their own POVs -- just state them but anyways.

Lastly, a few anons seemed to have implied that OP said "they can't be paired because Miles is autistic" which would be terribly prejudiced. Pretty sure OP focused on the "acearo" part as a reason for not shipping and mentioned the "autistic acearo" stereotype in passing.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-17 12:44 pm (UTC)(link)
But that's not what OP is doing. OP is saying "I don't see why this got popular because my headcanons mean there's no basis for it and people are so delusional how OOC they make the characters just to ship them that I'd get death threats for mentioning it". OP is not just stating their opinion on this ship and the characters, they're invaluating the opinions of everyone in that fandom who doesn't agree with their superior opinion.

"In my interpretation there is no basis for it" and then some of us patiently explained why there is some basis in the shared canon and they may choose to see it or not, while others attacked them. For sharing an opinion.
