It's the same with how people kept insisting Yuri on Ice wasn't gay even after an implied kiss and an engagement/promise ring when there would have been not doubt about it if one of the characters had been female.

Not gonna lie, Yuri on Ice was mild as fuck - if a het romance ended with an *implied* kiss EVERYONE would go "that... was it? So are they fucking or not lol? Is this Gen?" .

Wasn't it "implied" simply because nothing was clearly, visibly shown?

Their faces were deliberately not in the shot, that's why it was implied.
