Same to be honest

Also it's really annoying as a writer because Its frustrating to feel like you can't portray a subject in a deeper way without worrying that people will get mad if you don't spell things out when you wanna say they're bad

I know this is divisive to say but it's another reason I really resent antis . The whole anti thing online I feel has contributed to making people read something with the most ill will possible. They're so dishonest about it too like "what? Nooo we're just trying to help children by making sure people aren't making blatant incest pedo porn"

But then claim everything and anything is incest/pedo coded or whatever.

And then when people debate them a lot they're all "why ere you all so obsessed with these horrible things" when they're calling everything and anything that

I understand that resentment of antis. They are burdened with a poorly calibrated sense of purpose, and art and fandom suffer for it.

Yeah. Also art is very helpful in mental health and therapy which is another reason it's important. People write and draw to cope with things .

I had a therapist some few years ago who really thought my writing hobby helped me understand myself.

She was really good and really understanding in a lot of things and really empathetic .
I'd had some really toxic therapists in the past that harmed me and did almost lasting harm to my relationship with my mother .

That's why I get mad when antis talk about therapy like they understand anything about it and talk about how they want to become a therapist. It scares me bc i know the lasting damage a toxic therapist can do ..

That's very true, and people who aren't as inclined to create read and view things in order to cope. Fiction and art are safe venues to process our anxieties and experiences; it's part of what is meant by catharsis.

I think of the drama in the Sherlock fandom years ago, where a panelist at a convention was verbally attacked in person by a group of antis. She was an abuse survivor working through her trauma via fanworks, and they heaped their own sort of abuse on her. Really shameful behavior. I wonder sometimes if people like that are afraid of looking at something in themselves, and that causes them to misunderstand what it is that others are up to, and lash out at them.

I'm glad you found a good therapist who you were able to work with, but sorry that you had to wade through some toxic ones to find her.

Yes, and that group of antis were using anti rhetoric because shipping John/Sherlock one way was good and the other way was pedophilia and evil. Really appalling and I would like to think that at least some of them look back and are ashamed of themselves, even if the ringleaders aren't.

I completely agree on how frustrating this attitude is as a writer. A lot of my WIPs (especially the original ones) include difficult topics such as this one, and often center abuse victims. And I KNOW they'd get reactions like this... It's endlessly frustrating.

Omg YES.
And even in other regards
I have an interest in basically writing steamy stuff from the perspective of the subbier and often younger person bc I imagine myself in that role but antis push this whole thing that "you want these things to happen to others" and it's like "wtf no I'm just subby and my development was kinda wonky due to developmental disorders and infantalizing (which by antis are horrible about to nuerodivergent ppl)"

I hope this wasn't tmi hehe . But just basically antis see things in a black and white sll or nothing way , including psychology which is probably the least black and white simplistic topic known to man!!

It makes me angry how they tell about therapy when they don't even understand therapy
