Ehh, you could check something like Fiverr, but honestly in this area it's "get what you pay for." Something cheap would probably be "someone who throws your script through Google Translate and takes your money," but a real translator will cost.

That said, as a person of Japanese heritage, I can't help the way that my hackles raise at your insinuation that your comics might be a "better fit" for a Japanese audience. What does that mean, exactly? Is it the manga style? Is it some kind of controversial material that you assume would be more popular to a Japanese fanbase?

Sorry I apologize i guess what I was trying to ....well I guess the issue with one of my friends has is that... certain audiences are... very judgy lately about certain things but... I tried to tell them they'll find this anywhere. But. I figured I'd ask. Probably dumb though. I thought the whole thing was dumb anyway but I'm weak willed when it comes to stuff.

My thought though honestly? Is that I hoped that since Pixiv is Japanese website , a comic in that language might kinda be more successful than posting in English . But I also worried that sounded kind of.. shallow so.

I apologize for any offense tbh . Our team is still kinda discussing stuff and I might as well tell the group that doing it with a translator isn't the answer.

I'm sorry again I got tasked with finding info because I was the only one in our group with a paycheck and I'm not good with words on this and augh

Sorry I totally came off like an ass or offensive.

HI AYRT'S friend here

hi So my friend linked me to this post. Lemme clear up. I apologize as well for talking AYRT into this. I should have listened to them.

Don't worry so much about it, I understand where the concept comes from! Especially to a Western eye, Japanese fandom definitely seems a lot more laissez-faire-- but in truth, there's exactly the same problems there that there are in Western fandoms. Many artists face just as much harassment and cruelty as Western artists, unfortunately. In some cases it's even become physical! I suppose the difference is, unless it genuinely becomes dangerous, a lot of this is ignored.

Also, English-speaking artists aren't at all unusual on Pixiv these days, so you shouldn't have to worry too much about a language barrier. Many fans simply want to see content of their faves even if they can't understand the words. You'll find artists from all over the world on Pixiv-- while, yes, a majority remains Japanese, a large portion is now made up of Koreans, Thais, Chinese, Americans, and I'm even seeing quite a few Spanish-speaking artists lately. I think that's a great thing!

Post your comic, be proud of it. Don't change to try to suit one particular audience-- if you do find yourself facing harassment, please take steps to protect yourself. Quite often, a Japanese artist will completely alter their online presence depending on the fandom they're currently in-- and while this certainly can make maintaining fandom friendships difficult, it definitely minimizes any long exposure to antis, haha.

I'm sorry if I came off as combative. I admit I get a little sensitive about odd treatment from Western fans sometimes, so I can be defensive. I hope this clears my perspective up a little!

Thanks for the explanation and I get it. I confess I've always been sensitive especially to the anti kind of harassment of "you're a horrible person who's contributing to the abuse of children" .

It's easier to take a simple "haha your work isn't that good" compared to "you're horrible and hurting people" so i guess i hoped I could avoid exposure but you're right. I think with the group of us creating together we can stand against antis and harassment and just share our works with the world.

Thank you for talking with me about it! I understand. It's upsetting to hear that much vitriol over something that's actually entirely innocuous.

Always remember that the people who go to such extremes are deeply unhappy people, who lash out as some attempt to control the world around them. I believe they think that by attempting to "purify" a fandom through force and hatred (rather than simply muting/blocking terms and people to curate what they see), they can make some kind of impact on actual atrocities occurring in the world-- when, in fact, the two things have almost nothing to do with each other. Just remember that you know you're not doing anything wrong, and what you're seeing is a product of deep-seated fear... and perhaps even self-hatred.

Or, if you like to take the petty route, I know quite a few circles who take screenshots of the most vitriolic comments they get and share them amongst each other, laughing at how insanely over-the-top they are. All this, over a silly piece of art! It helps to have people you can have as backup, and helps take a lot of the wind out of anti sails.

Really, the most important thing is to never publicly respond. The old adage of "don't feed the trolls" absolutely applies here.

But you might find it helpful to make a conscious choice not to guilt yourself over anything online that you don't have actual proof you did wrong.

If drawing sinful pictures were raping children, that would be terrible ... but where is the proof that these things are connected? And where's the proof that causation runs in the direction they're claiming it does (I.e., what if antis' arguments are like blaming kidnappings on the existence of stockholm syndrome)?

Too often, fans let their emotions get the better of them and forget that the people accusing them of making harmful art have nothing but their belief to go on. You don't have to adopt their belief. None of what they're saying about you applies if their central point about abuse is bullshit, and as far as anyone reasonable can tell, it is.

If someone wanted to stop bank robbery, would they post guards around the bank or would they go attack everyone who drew a picture of a stick-up?

People abuse children every day, and the benefits they get from that are direct. It's not "oh, if I can't find internet art about this, there's no point, I must stop immediately." And it never was.

DA just jumping into the conversation, but I had the idea before of sharing my original content in Japanese if… my Japanese language skills ever got to a satisfactory level. Simply translate it since it’s heavily inspired by what I enjoy ie manga and Japanese games, and not everyone who speaks Japanese also speaks English (obviously) . Do you think there would be a problem with it?
Sidenote I am not from an English speaking culture nor am I Japanese (or a descendant of either)

Different cultures enjoy different things. Certain games are changed for the countries they are released in. There are changes in a lot of translations of media to make it appeal more to each country. Certain shows will be a hit in one country and totally flop in another. I don't think it's offensive to be like "this concept seems to really appeal more to X culture"

But I think the testiness was more in relation to feeling like "so, if this would get you in deep shit in YOUR country, why is it supposed to be okay in mine?" Because that can be a problem.

I don't think the anon they responded to was doing anything wrong, and yeah - fan cultures that haven't been terrorized by antis tend to be much nicer than ones that have, so I think I understand where they're coming from, too. But it was hard to tell what was meant from the original comment.
