Do you mean someone identifying themselves that way outside of fandom? Because in fandom that’s not only a normal thing but extremely useful. It gives people an idea of your preferences, yeah, but also of your fandom experiences and often some of your social circle. It’s a great way of forming a bond with others in the fandom, especially for the fans who don’t produce fanworks or are shy about initiating contact.
