Huh? Unless this is accompanied by trashing of other ships and harassing those who don't ship the same, I don't see how this is a bad thing in itself.

I describe myself that way so people know what to expect from my blog...

A red flag for me would be someone like you reading way too much into other people simply expressing what they're into or like in fandom.

It's not identifying, it's categorizing.

finding something annoying isn't a red flag op.

This makes no sense to me

People find fandom friends based on similar likes, often that means the same characters they like or the same pairings or 'ships. Putting those descriptors in your profiles helps find others that like the same things. "I'm a stucky shipper" isn't an Identity, it's shorthand for saying how they participate in fandom and what they like.

I'm definitely gonna start doing this from now on :D

Do you mean someone identifying themselves that way outside of fandom? Because in fandom that’s not only a normal thing but extremely useful. It gives people an idea of your preferences, yeah, but also of your fandom experiences and often some of your social circle. It’s a great way of forming a bond with others in the fandom, especially for the fans who don’t produce fanworks or are shy about initiating contact.

I mean, generally most people want to make their main areas of fannish interest known up front, in order to help fans with shared interests find them, and also help fans who don't share their interests decide whether to hang around or not.

Also, if someone has a controversial ship then they're probably going to want to make that known up front so as to avoid being followed by anyone who may not be comfortable with that ship.

And thirdly, some people are in fandom primarily for one single ship. That's not a red flag, it's a perfectly valid way that some people do fandom.

I mean have fun not interacting with anyone in fandom ever?? When I'm in a new fandom space, I say 'oh hey, I'm a (x) shipper' so people know what I write/draw?? So people know what kind of convos I'll be into? Because it's nicer than listing the ships I *won't* be participating in fanworks/convos for???

Like, I don't go into a new fandom space and rattle off my career history and every person in my family and every single non-fandom hobby I have, because those things aren't immediately relevant-- they might deepen my new fandom friendships over time when they come up, but if I join a discord server and it's friendly to a handful of ships, then I say 'oh yeah, I'm here because I'm a (x) shipper!', because that is what is normal in that circumstance.

And if my blog wasn't a constant rotation of multifandom and non-fandom stuff, like if I had a single-fandom blog, I'd put what my ships were there so that people know whether or not they want to follow me. Because that's what they're presumably on tumblr for, and it would suck for them if I was, say, a dedicated destiel blog but they saw a gen post I made and came to me hoping for something else, only to get smacked in the face with destiel for the next couple of days, before finally realizing that I probably wouldn't post anything else they were into.
