I've noticed that too! And it seems like a relatively recent addition? But I just came back from a many years break so maybe they just were on break when I first came back. Either way, yeah. Don't like it. People who only post pissy negative things confuse me.

I am curious about your confusion. I admit I understand why people may end up only posting negative things, so confusion ironically leaves me scratching my head.

I don't understand why people choose to go online only to be mean. Why go to a community if all you're going to do is be crabby and mean and stir shit up? I've never understood trolling, it seems kind of psychopathic behavior to me.

AYRT

Aside from malice, I can see someone doing this out of frustration over only seeing one particular viewpoint in a space. I've done similar things to attempt to keep the conversation from becoming full of sycophantic behavior. (Of course, this tactic works better when the negative/crabby comments have careful phrasing.)

Also, I think sometimes people have trouble managing tone? I might not be thinking of who OP is thinking of, but sometimes text comes across as more blunt and aggressive than might have been intended.

You think there's just one?

—I've definitely been an asshole here on FS for years, but I'm very definitely not the only asshole.

....A few weeks ago I submitted a secret about Knives Out 2 where I related too much to Birdie Jay...yeah, some of my comments come off as troll-y and I'm sorry.
TBF I am seeing how my anger and self righteousness can make me say really judgmental things. In my head I'm speaking the truth everyone is too blinded to see...but in reality, I often am writing angry entitled rants.

I am trying to refrain from immediately just going, "Well you don't see it the way I do, therefore you're wrong!" But it's still a work in progress.

And I often don't reply to the replies because I don't want to further put my foot in my mouth lol

I never was mean in comments here, but something tells me it's not just one person. like, the TERF anon and anti-defender anon are probably two different people, and that's just from the top of my head.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-27 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just waiting to see what that anon says on this secret, because I'm a slut for meta bullshit.

(Anonymous) 2023-07-27 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Makes me wonder if “the” anon really is just one person and if so, if they will even realize it is about them.
Or even go online today.

Gossip ain't quite as fun if no one's getting turnt over it!

With social media, I just assume everyone is either on the spectrum or they're locked in their trauma. That's helps me to not take their comments to heart. Some people just don't know how to express themselves politely.

(Including me, come to think of it.)

(Anonymous) 2023-07-27 08:09 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, in recent months I've come to see most comments with a similar lens.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. Then again I spend a fair amount of time into neurodiverse spaces and have gotten used to a variety of writing styles in them. Thus I can be a bit mire mentally flexible in this regard.

As for trauma, that to me has a bit more merit. Even so, I still don't know if the assumption strategy here really helps. If anything, I wonder if it informs your diction in a way that could further entrench people in their trauma.
