My tiktok FYP is now mostly split between women showing off their 'Kens' and their 'jobs' (computer, warehouse, etc), and women complaining that the biggest thing to come out of the Barbie movie (in their spaces) has been the "I'm Just Ken" song blowing up, as well as the aforementioned Ken-job-pushing when the focus of the movie was and should have been Barbie.

I think it's adorable to see all the vague Ken 'jobs' like movie Ken's 'beach' job. I don't think it takes away from all the important messages of the film when after opening night my FYP was filled with discussions about the nuance of the film (as well as it's issues), as well as people using the movie as a litmus test for their relationships if their SO brushes the movie off as 'dumb' and 'misandrist'.

What the heck is "Ken-job-pushing?" Boasting that your boyfriend is a working stiff, but the well paid kind?

Lmao, no there's a joke in the movie that Ken's jobs are things like 'beach' and 'surf', whereas Barbie has actual jobs like, being a doctor, or president, neuroscience, etc.

So there's all these cute (imo) tiktoks about "Barbie" showing the world what their Ken's "job" is (ie, my Ken's job is warehouse, he comes with forklift certification), and people are complaining that for a movie about feminism and the patriarchy that Ken is still coming across as 'the most important' in the aftermath, when to me it feels like more gentle making fun of their husbands/SO's jobs.

Oh. Thank you for explaining.
