Wow, that's a pairing i have never seen, and an argument for the 'ship i've never heard.
Blech.
That guy was utterly uninteresting and gross, and nope, would not ship ever.

RIGHT? And yet people who I genuinely like, and who in so many other areas have fandom opinions which line up close enough to mine, are SO into it that I can't complain about it in the chat...

Aye yo, it's DJO!

heck yes

Yeah no I don't see it lol. Tommy was just your average HS bully. I don't think he was secretly tortured by his love for Steve.

And he didn't even have enough of a personality beyond Basic Bully for me to figure out where people would pull that from.

Like even though I don't ship it, I GET Billy/Steve and Jonathan/Steve, but Tommy/Steve??

Like... Tommy had this whole thing where HE could have a serious girlfriend but he got upset about STEVE having Nancy, but even *that*, like... if Steve had been with a girl who 'fit' with them, who was friends with Carol, would that have even been a thing? It's really hard for me to see it as necessarily romantic?? He's a troglodyte, but still a human with feelings, I get that there's real hurt when Steve outgrows him and tells him off, and a friendship ending is a blow for anyone, but like... he doesn't CHANGE because of it, he just becomes more of a dick and finds someone worse to play lackey to?? So even IF you think 'oh well he loved Steve', like... not enough. Not enough to change. So why should I care about him?

I think if Jonathan and Steve had actually been allowed to be friends and interact after fighting a monster together with Nancy, then Steve/Jonathan or Steve/Nancy/Jonathan would have been interesting, and the way the show played out, there wasn't enough. Billy/Steve is LOATHSOME to me and I genuinely cannot read Billy as *attracted* to men, BUT, I think there's a sexual component to his bullying of Steve/trying to take his 'crown'? Like, in the way that sexual harassment is about power rather than attraction, and the way that it's rooted in *competition*? But I don't think Neil Hargrove being homophobic ACTUALLY has anything to do with his son's sexuality-- I think he saw his son get an ear piercing and decided at that point that everything he did from that point on would be viewed through a certain lens, like he's of a generation where he'd immediately jump to 'this looks gay', whereas *Billy* is in the generation where *which ear you get pierced matters*, and his is the 'straight' ear.
