I mainly think the whole "lol let's have several different directors who don't give a fuck about each other's plans for continuity and who actively work to sabotage each other for the lulz, no way this will backfire" was a really, really dumb approach.

See link above. Turns out they did have a plan, and it was mostly followed in the first two movies. It was the third that went off the rails.

The plot itself wasn't the big issue with TLJ. The execution was.

Maybe the plan wasn't great or enjoyable? Just because there was a plan doesn't mean people were obligated to like it or stick with it.
