Frankly, I checked out of SW after TFA (nothing pissed me off, it was just lack of interest), and I haven't really been invested in years. But I'm not so sure you can blame this on the fans. Sounds like all they did was express their opinions. Maybe if the writers had a better storyline they could believe in, they wouldn't have changed it to appease a disappointed fandom. (Or, idk, someone higher up who only cares about $$$?)

Besides, even if they went with their original storyline, there's no guarantee the outcome would have been better.

Literally anything would have been better than TROS.

Thank you, OP!

LMAO this is absolutely not real

Also it would mean they chickened out twice by pulling out of the original plan to keep him evil and then killing him off for no reason after he's redeemed in TROS, thereby not actually making the Reylos happy.

(And worst of all, giving me only three items of official Reylo merch. If we're so goddammit powerful, fucking commit to catering to us dammit.)

>It was supposed to be a message to young girls that just because you want to fix someone, it doesn’t mean you’ll always succeed. However, the powers that be chickened out when they saw how huge the Reylo fandom was

I find this sequence of events rather difficult to believe. I don't even like Reylo and I still can't imagine that it wasn't the planned endgame from the beginning. It's nearly the only thing the trilogy agreed with itself about.

Also, this claim fits hilariously precisely into the anti-whatever narrative about how events in fiction directly control everyone's morality in real life.

Plus, with the account in question being suspended... well, actually, with the way Reddit's been run lately, I guess that doesn't mean anything one way or the other.

Re: OP

(Anonymous) 2023-08-06 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
That was never the plan. Like, ever. The original third movie had a script you can read and Kylo gives his life force to Rey to save her after she embraces the idea that the dark side is valuable when balanced with the light side. There’s this whole expository thing about it and it brings him to the light side and then sacrifices himself for her.

I think some of that made it into TROS but I never watched it. After TLJ I admitted to myself I really don’t care about Star Wars other than the original trilogy.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Blame the incompetent hacks behind the scenes, not the fans.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
How is it the fans fault that the people in charge of making it are spineless panderers, op?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
It is at least partially the fault of a certain portion of the fandom who think they speak for all of us and who think they are owed exactly what they want. Yes, many of the creators are spineless and are also to blame. There is plenty of blame to go around.

Fans are literally the paying audience tho.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
All fans are. As are non-fans who still watch. One small group of fans does not get to tell the creators what to do and force them to make exactly what they want as if it is what everyone wants and what is best.

Nah. None of that is on fandom. TLJ was never going to please the majority of Star Wars fans and that’s on Rian Johnson and Disney. Disney’s response to the masses being unhappy with TLJ is Disney’s fault.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Wrong. TLJ was easily the best of the sequel trilogy. It is just that a really loud portion of the fandom isn't pleased with anything that isn't a rehash of the OT (and really just ANH and ESB). And they act like they speak for the whole fandom. And because they are the loudest, the creators listen to them and think they are the fandom.

I mainly think the whole "lol let's have several different directors who don't give a fuck about each other's plans for continuity and who actively work to sabotage each other for the lulz, no way this will backfire" was a really, really dumb approach.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
See link above. Turns out they did have a plan, and it was mostly followed in the first two movies. It was the third that went off the rails.

As someone who loved TLJ and thought that Kylo being evil (and who isn't a fan of the woobie stuff that most of the fandom serves up) was what they were going for, I wish they had followed this plan. I thought Kylo had a lot of potential and it was great to see him fully embrace being evil in that movie.

I think one of the biggest problems with TRoS was that it tried way too hard to please everyone and ended up being a steaming pile of poo in the process.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-05 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Anon, "look what you made me do" is abuser logic.

No one in the fandom held a gun to the creators' heads and "made" them change the plot from something you would have liked to see to something you were unhappy with.

And looking at the comments, you're basing your opinion on what somebody said on Reddit? When we have no clue who they are or whether they made their connection to the movies up whole-cloth? I'm skeptical, anon.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-06 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, pretty much the only thing TLJ did well was setting up Kylo Ren for a redemption arc (only to randomly make him fully evil for the last quarter of the film because blindsiding viewers was the entire theme of the film). So I'm not surprised TROS went there (even if it horribly bungled the execution).

(Anonymous) 2023-08-06 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, I didn't see it as random, more of a "cool motive, still murder" thing. Rey could see the humanity and sympathize with him, but his own choices and attitude about his life made the final call, not her.

I don't really believe the link tbh. Not because of Reylo but cause of who Kylo was.
You're trying to tell me that the original plan was to have the son of Han Solo and Leia Fucking Organa stay evil all the way through??? After even his grandfather got a last minute semi-redemption???
Na.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-06 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
This is how I feel about the latest Witcher season. They have accommodated ignorant fans so much that the original story has lost its flavour and gotten incredibly bland and boring.

Star Trek Discovery had similar problems, the writers thought they were making Star Wars and missed the SW vibe completely.

You really think it was the fans and not Disney's obsession with keeping their twists so twisty that they refuse to let the actors/writers/etc., know what the overall plan is? Even though the latter has also been a major problem in the MCU? Okay.
