From what I've gathered from fandom osmosis, Izzy is the only guy trying to take being a pirate seriously on a show that operates on screwball comedy logic. I get that he might stick out like a sore thumb and look like an extra meany because everyone else is in a soft-edged world where no one actually hangs for piracy, or loots and murders like they mean it, but I'm not sure what your problem with him is. Aside from people deciding he ought to be written as trans.

Well you see, he yelled at a gay man for having sex instead of doing work, and he stands in the way of the main pair getting together. So this makes him inherently toxic. /s
