>easy road trip

I think you're thinking of the EU, anon. The US is too mcfuckin heug.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-19 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
If you live west of the Mississippi, maybe. How long do you think it takes to drive from Boston, thru Providence, to New York?

(Anonymous) 2023-08-19 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you're driving from Boston to Buffalo, it takes, like, 6 1/2 hours (without the going through Providence). If you're driving from Jackson, Mississippi to New York City, it takes 17. If you're driving from Miami, Florida to New York City, it takes 18. If you're driving from St. Paul, Minnesota (which I didn't realize most of was east of the Mississippi) to New York City, it takes 16 1/2. Weirdly, if you're not in the small close together states, it could take a while.

Six and half is completely reasonable, and the others are also doable just with a little more effort. If you live in one of the larger states, then those are pretty normal figures for driving to an event. I don't see the problem here.

I definitely would not consider 33-36 hours (there and back) an easy road trip if you've only got limited time off to do it in.

You don't have to say New York City, you can just say New York. Everyone knows New York is the city, anywhere else in the state is where you need to take the name. And who drives from Miami to New York? You fly for that one. Jesus, it isn't even expensive.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-20 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Naw you need to specify the city. Don't be that asshole.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-20 08:20 am (UTC)(link)
Tell me you live upstate, without telling me you live upstate. New York is always the city.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-20 12:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Lmao are you from the city? Plus Buffalo is /also/ in New York, so anon was giving a perfectly reasonable amount of detail.

I call out New York City because New York state is not really a small state (being the larger than Rhode Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Delaware combined) and I put the driving distance to another city in the state. Road trips are specifically mentioned in both the secret and this comment tread, that is why everyone is talking about road trips.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-19 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
If you're driving from Miami, Florida to New York City, it takes 18.

Except literally no one would ever do that. You would just take Amtrak instead.

The secret says road trips. The comment I was replying to seemed to imply that any road trip east of the Mississippi is a doddle, and I was showing that it's really, really not.

DA

How about if you live outside New England.

It took me at least thirteen hours to drive from Illinois to my aunt's home in northern Virginia. That was if the weather was good, with few or no construction delays, no accidents on my side of the Interstate and I timed it right so I didn't hit Indianapolis or Columbus during rush hour.

Driving from Boston to New York can also take a lot longer than you'd think, especially in bad weather, major traffic or if there's a lot of construction.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-20 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Why do people talk about driving in this area like their source is Google Maps? Biggest way to show you don't know anything.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-20 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
I mean if you're comparing the US to the entire EU, the distances can be roughly comparative. In total surface area, Europe is slightly bigger than the US, and though the European Union does not encompass all of Europe, there are locations within the EU that are as far apart from one another as San Fransisco is from New York.

(Anonymous) 2023-08-20 08:47 am (UTC)(link)
There are locations within the EU that are much further apart from one another than San Francisco and New York.

Then again, there are locations in the US that are much further apart from one another than San Francisco and New York.
