"People have told me why they dislike certain relationships, but I know better and they're lying" seems needlessly provocative.

I realize "chemistry" is a fairly imprecise way of expressing emotional affinity or sexual attraction, but most of the words people reach for when they're having an informal conversation about what a relationship is missing, for them, are vague. There's always the chance of revealing more about yourself than you mean to, if you seek out the words to articulate why the things these two people direct at each other feel loveless or unpleasant. Or whatever the matter might be. And there's always the possibility that the person you're talking to won't appreciate hearing it.

You're right, that is needlessly provocative, and it isn't what OP said at all. Suspecting (or "feeling" in this case) isn't the same as knowing or throwing accusations of lying.

Me though, I'll flat out say that sometimes folks just don't personally find a pairing hot. I don't think they're "lying" exactly, they just might not realize there's something others see in a pairing. And sometimes there is a lack of chemistry, but that doesn't stop others from seeing a ship's appeal.

I don't think I know better, but I am noticing the trend. It's always two characters who're attractive, it seems. Very, VERY rarely, is the character what people call "ugly." (Who never really is, but like. People say they are.)
