(Anonymous) 2023-08-27 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)Well, now we have a download option in AO3, with different formats even! So preserving fics became way easier than the old:
> left click > select all > left click > copy > right click on text editor > left click > paste > select first line (title) > left click > copy (title) > SAVE FILE AS > left click > paste (title) > SAVE > title.txt
or my favourite short version
> left click > select all > left click > copy > right click on text editor > left click > paste > SAVE FILE AS > agdjsjgvjfodjdjhjoj.txt
...I think I prefer AO3 than that. I spent 15+ years with those damned .txt files... And sure! I still have EVERY fanfiction I liked preserved on my HD, but AO3 made it that much easier to download them. It's one of the "rare" technical advancements that's GOOD. I still do the old SAVE FILE AS when hunting for old fics on LJ and even older archives, but now my hands hurt after a while. I'm old!

(Anonymous) 2023-08-28 12:37 am (UTC)(link)With the mouse it takes me less than 10 seconds to save a fanfic with the fics title as the name file.
I know that because I used to do it ALL the time and I timed myself.
I never said it was "hard", just that I much prefer simply clicking "DOWNLOAD" on AO3. It takes me literally one second to do that. Oh, and the file has tags that I can organize on calibre! I LOVE THAT!
And yeah, it is simpler than copy pasting 100 fics to put on my ebook. FOR ME. maybe not for you? Everyone's different.
BTW I know how to use keyboard shortcuts lol I use them all the time to copy paste. It's still longer than simply clicking on the download button on AO3.
And, personally, using shortcuts takes me longer than using the mouse. I have no idea why. It also hurts my left hand more in the long run.
