Low-key wondering if any of this refers to Crowley or Blackbeard.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-12 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I was going to guess fandom #3 was Crowley GoodOmens. I can see how he could and might, but I don't think he ever does in canon.

You're probably more correct, but my immediate peeve-thought was Severus Snape.

AYART

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
He might be the one who wouldn't for safety reasons!

OP snape wasn't one of them bc I don't really look at hp fanworks and don't care about him, so I had no idea he was getting in on this.

Anon who brought him up:

Yeah I didn't really think he was one of the list, it's just a peeve of mine that it happens to him too.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Same. I feel like if Crowley wanted to wear black nail polish, we would have seen him doing so AT SOME POINT. And OFMD is so anachronistic, I feel the same for Blackbeard. He could have added it to his breakup makeup.

Both of them get it in fanart so much.

I haven't watched season 2 of Good Omens yet but apparently he's wearing gold or silver polish at some point. Maybe black isn't out of the question?

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I immediately thought of those two characters too. But also, I wish they would wear nail polish in canon!

There was a lot of wank about MCU!Loki having black nails for a while, because comic!Loki usually does. My mind went there.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Crowley is the third-- we do see him in nail polish, so it's not that I can't accept he'd EVER, but when it's specific looks drawn but with the addition, or art of a specific *scene* where his nails were unpainted, it just hits the Wrong button in my brain.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I was thinking Emet-Selch because people love drawing him with black nail polish likely due to the form he takes in The Dying Gasp.

I am very interested in which job you couldn't wear black nail polish as a safety issue! There's lots of jobs (including mine) where you can't have long nails or false nails, but just nail polish itself on your short fingernails is only really an issue for patients in hospital AFAIK.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah as a hospital worker myself the only hard stop for makeup/nail polish/fake nails/contacts etc that comes to mind is sterile work because it's a cleanliness issue (no one wants nail polish flakes or foundation powder in their IV bags lol).

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Might be food service related, depending on the establishment's particular rules all nail polish can be banned.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
But that's not safety, that's just workplace rules. "Unnatural" nail polish was banned at my old workplace (a hospital) for years until some of the male doctors started wearing it and then it was just fine!

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
No, it is a food hygiene issue. Nail polish can flake off and contaminate food and food prep areas. If you work in food prep then you are not allowed nail polish.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, okay, that makes sense.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Yup, I worked a food service job for a while and we weren't allowed to have painted nails for this exact reason.

I'm going to go ahead and guess some food prep, some lab work (like prep and clean-up, especially around open-flame), and I can see where sparkly nail polish and the like might be an issue with causing micro-tears in gloves.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 05:26 am (UTC)(link)
I work in medical devices production and we have a strict no nail polish rule out of concern over dried polish or fake nails chipping/breaking off. Potential to contaminate not only the device but patients too.

It's hard! I learned an easy method to dissolve gel polish so when I get my nails done they only stay on my nails for a couple days ='( I miss getting my nails done and having them on for weeks.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 12:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Would you mind sharing your method? I can't have painted nails at work either.

(Anonymous) 2023-09-13 05:19 pm (UTC)(link)
This is the video that helped me a lot! I highly recc silicone covers (aluminum too, don't like the nail clips much).
Also the warmer you keep the soaked nails the better it works. Cover your hands with a towel to keep your hands warm. It's a little uncomfortable but helps remove polish so fast.

I also highly recc getting dip powder nail polish since they have been easy to remove. The polish dissolves so removal feels less difficult.
This was my favorite tutorial for dip powder removal.

Lab safety, in this particular case-- it depends on what type of science you're doing, but because I once knew someone who worked in a biology lab setting and would complain about not being able to paint her nails, seeing art of someone doing that with painted nails just sets me off.
