I think for me it's that most dirty talk veers into humiliation territory and that's just not my jam for sex-talk on any level. Like descriptions of what's going on and utterly filthy imagery I am fully on board with, but the moment a character calls another some variation of a 'dirty cockslut' I start laughing and proceed to skim the dialouge for the rest of the sex scenes in the story.

I think porn dialogue is hard to write and is very YMMV, and for me it misses 99% of the time.

Sorry, OP. I love dirty talk. Not humiliation/insult stuff, but "you are so hot, I need you now" kind of dirty talk. Just characters so into each other and being blunt about it.

For me, it's when it's either out of character or the exact same terms every time in every fic (frequently both). I don't mind dirty talk, but I do mind boring dialogue!

Too much talking is the bane of smut. The best smutfics have no dialogue, just descriptions of sensations. Sometimes inner monologue of the pov character can be spicy, but dialogue always detracts.

I think well done dialogue can be great, but that's a challenge sometimes. It's just SO easy to mess up. My least favorite kind of smut dialogue is where writers spell out what, IMO, ought to be just "she moaned" and instead go:

"AhhhhhhhhmygodAHHHHHHHyeahAHHHHHHH," screamed Scully.
"Hunnnurrrrrrrghhhhuuuuuuuh," moaned Mulder.

That shit is the worst, LOL.

I love dirty talk in theory, but I HATE humiliation (outside of VERY specific characters/ships, and even then I have to be in the mood to read it even if I think it's what they'd be into, which...) and I HATE when dialogue sounds really OOC, so... I've had to back out of enough scenes with dirty talk that I feel you.

I absolutely love dirty talk in smut. I dislike degrading dirty talk 99% of the time, but praise, encouragement, verbalizing of filthy inner thoughts and feeling, etc, are all very much things I love. Honestly, I'd go as far as to say that I basically always prefer smut with some amount of dirty talk to smut without it. The dirty things my OTP says to each other while extremely horny are a huge part of what makes a smut scene hot to me.

However, I can definitely see how, if you hate dirty talk, trying to avoid it would be deeply frustrating.

I don't necessarily think fic writers ought to tag for general dirty talk, though. Like, if it's kinky dirty talk then sure, tag for the kink, but I think most authors opt not to tag for more general types of dirty talk because tagging it might give readers the false impression it's a focal feature of the fic or something.

I dislike it too in general and I especially hate the generic dirty talk authors write for very character.

This comment made me LOL. Sorry to say, I'm an anon of simple tastes, it's just as good the hundredth thousandth time as far as I'm concerned... when it comes to dirty talk in fic my standards are literally rock bottom. If they're talking and it's dirty I probably will enjoy it.

NA - I'm a bit pickier than you, but I relate to the basic sentiment here. Like, I don't enjoy AYRT's example, but most of it I'm fine with. "You feel so good for me," is general enough to work with the majority of pairings, IMO, and, "Take my fat cock," can be hot IMO, provided it matches the tone/general filth-level of the rest of the scene. I'm not personally into the, "You're just a greedy hole," line of dirty talk, because I dislike degradation across the board, and also because I like my OTPs intensely monogamous and therefore I dislike any dirty talk that suggests either character would be equally eager with someone else. But that's more about personal preference than the goodness or badness of the line.

I have definitely read plenty of dirty talk that pinged as OOC to me, and plenty of dirty talk that just wasn't the type of thing I was into. But overall I think my standards for dirty talk are fairly easy to meet. In part because I love dirty talk, but also because I actually think that most dirty talk can be passably in character provided the scene is well written in general. Like, bottom line, people say and/or respond positively to some weird shit when their horny brain is in the driver's seat. So if a character's dirty talk feels OOC to me, it's more likely due to bad writing in general than to bad dirty talk specifically.

Oof I'm sorry OP. Something that isn't for you and not getting proper warnings/tags in terms of smut, my sympathies.

I love dirty talk. Sometimes I love degradation, with the right dynamic it's super hot and/or fun, sends the whole scene onto another level.

I don't universally "hate" it, but I'm really picky about how it's done, so I feel you on hoping/wishing people would tag for it, because often I'm just like "ew" and would prefer not to have encountered it.
