*shrug* Personally, I say good for everyone for doing whatever makes them comfortable and whatever yields the most enjoyment for them.

I ship Starker, and I've tagged for Peter being 18+ before, because I knew it would make a fair number of potential readers more comfortable to have that information from the get-go.

I guess I might roll my eyes a bit if it was a teen show and the teenage characters were only having sex with other characters close to them in age, but there was still a tag that was like, "Everybody's 18+". Personally I do find that a bit silly. But hey, if it's what makes the author comfortable and/or makes their readers inclined to click through, then good for them.

Okay, but Starker is an American couple in American media and Peter Parker had canonical ages varying from teens to 20-somethings. OP specifically talked about non-American characters.

And if I had a ship from a piece of Japanese media, or Russian media, or Australian media, or Canadian media, or wherever else, and one character was well into adulthood while the other was a teenager, I would be aging the teen character up to a minimum of 17, simply because that's my personal preference. And if I got the impression that a lot of readers wanted to know that information, then I'd tag for it, too.

As long as one isn't trying to shame or pressure others into doing it the same way, good for them.

If you were used to media from (insert place) and knew that the age of consent both there and in your country is lower than the US? there would be no cultural reason to do that other than appease American mores rly
