I am a dub hater for the stupidest, shallowest reason ever: I DESPISE hearing shrill American accents. You know the type. Honestly it always shits me hearing anime characters talk in American accents. I know it's not reasonable but jesus, I have to watch everything else in American accents thanks to cultural monopoly, so watching something in Japanese/Swedish/Spanish/etc is a very welcome break.

Also I feel like you miss things! After watching anime for years you start to pick up on the nuance of certain phrases, after hearing them and seeing them translated in different ways.

OP

Oh fuck. I KNOW. I hate this particular accent that is usually used in English dub.
I am not even from English speaking country and viscerally know the type.

Yeah, I hate missing this nuances. Tbf I have a lot of thoughts about translations because I am against translators changing cultural things so local reader can understand better. Our books in before internet time translated hamburger as sandwich because we had no hamburgers. That's fair, but it looks really dated now. So in the age of internet and all the information I think you can use Name-san in your translation, really.

What's your native language? You put Swedish in with the languages you like to watch things in, and I personally find that language (along with its relatives) rather shrill.

AYRT - English is my native (and only, sadly) language. Swedish was just on the top of my head since I'm a Young Royals fan, and not sure I've ever watched anything else in Swedish, but I've never known that or any other Euro languages to be shrill? At least not in the way American dubs get shrill (other than maybe French Miraculous Ladybug, that one was rough)

NAYRT
Really? I don't find Scandinavian languages especially schrill. I don't like Mandarine Chinese though for some reason.

I am American and I hate the accent and intonation in most American dubs.

SA Also, most of the actors doing anime dubs in the US just aren't very good.
