I feel you. I love seeing characters break down if it feels like the breakdown that character would have! And for some characters, it takes a LOT to push them there, and they will not break down over every little thing (though they appear to break down over one little thing that just happens to be the last straw)... and some are freaking out CONSTANTLY! But it does not work to write the former as the latter!


Another variant I enjoy, the character who is unflappable about catastrophic injury or disaster, but ALSO constantly breaks down over 'insignificant' things.

Writing a normally stoic character breaking down is very delicate to keep IC and can go OOC really fast. When it's good it's amazing, when it's not so good, the whole fic is unbelievable.
