Oof, this is a spicy take but... I don't entirely disagree with you?

I do think when fandoms start out they can be deep and the first 1-3 months will be the only time this will happen, but after that the characters will get simplified down to one trope and 1-2 personality traits and thus strip any depth the fanon once had, and that's usually the point I check out of a fandom. The potential and originality is gone.
