(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 05:57 am (UTC)(link)that said OP I also encourage a go for it and don't let space limitations stop you! I know quilters who struggle to have space to ever lay out their work but also make it happen because they just love quilting that much - and quilting takes up a shitload of space compared to garment-making. the most space you'll ever need is for cutting patterns, so if you can just commandeer the dining room table or living room floor for an hour here and there, you can still make small space sewing work!

(Anonymous) 2023-10-01 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)Keeping a fabric and notions and pattern stash takes up more room, but provided OP is more disciplined than me, one projects worth of material isn't so bad.
But I was gonna suggest OP take continuing ed or community college sewing classes, if those are a thing where they are. Then they can learn enough to know if it'd be worth it to shell out for a machine.
And speaking of machines, OP, if you do get one, get a vintage all metal machine if you can and the weight isn't an issue. They're not that heavy; I can lift mine one handed. And they're insanely durable; mine was my mom's from when she was in high school, and my dad threw it across the room once, and it still works.
