Shoes. I try to get it but I just don’t.

Seconding this. They're something that is basically at risk of getting damaged/scuffed/stained the second you start using them.

This is one where spending the money actually makes sense to me. The shoes that I've paid a lot for have all been the ones that have lasted me for a decade or more. The cheaper ones fall apart in a couple of years of regular use.

Shoes for fashion, yeah, kind of ridiculous.

But some of us have stupid feet and finding decent shoes is difficult, so I can understand shelling out extra for a good pair.

Fashion shoes, yeah, but I work in a warehouse and have seen people permanently fuck up their feet/ankles doing heavy work in cheap shoes. Get some solid shoes (leather or equivalent heavy material, good ankle support, good fit, nonslip that doesn't wear out in 2 weeks, steel or composite toe) or gtfo.

The good thing is that I'm also able to wear them when the sidewalks get icy in the winter lol.

Agree with everyone saying good work shoes are worth it. As long as the price reflects the quality.

Yep. I paid $250 or so for a pair of boots I wore nearly every day in college. I walked hundreds of miles in those boots (including in the rain and snow) and I only ended up eventually retiring them to yardwork boots years later because the leather finally started to come apart. The soles and heels still look like they're maybe six months old.

I've averaged just under 8 miles a day of walking all this year, and just over 7 a day last year, plus I stand at a desk for 40 hours a week.

I buy good shoes and get my boots re-soled and still walk them to death. If I bought cheap ones I'd fuck up my feet and ankles in a couple days.

As for fashion shoes, I only have a couple pairs; they're mostly 20+ years old because I wear them so rarely they haven't worn out.

I'm only at 3 miles a day, but do you have any recommendations?

I probably should have been more specific - I get why people buy good quality shoes. I just don’t get why people have huge collections of shoes. I guess there’s nothing really to “get” about it but I have four pairs of shoes and that’s counting my rain boots and my snow boots. I should buy backup work shoes I suppose.

Depends on how much money we're talking about here.

$1400 on Prada boots? Yeah, that's rich people shit. If I was going to be buying footwear like that I'd have to have so much money I just didn't care about a measly grand or two.

OTOH, footwear in the $200–$300 range is well worth it in my experience. The last two pairs of boots I bought from Zara barely got worn because they felt like garbage on my feet. The fact that they were real leather tricked me into thinking they might not be trash, but lol nope they were trash. By contrast, I got a $400 pair of Coach boots on sale for $200 and I've worn them heavily for five years now. I've had to re-heel them four times because I'm a hardcore heel-walker (I have to re-heel all my footwear constantly), but other than that they're barely showing their wear and they're so comfortable.
