I just figure he's this generation's version of Burt Reynolds.

FWIW, I grew up during the 80s and I never found Burt Reynolds attractive, either. But I think he fills that particular niche for people.

I think he has interesting good looks that are elevated to very attractive through his personality and acting talent. He's truly one of those people with charisma.

I think the attraction is based more on personality. He’s good looking but drop dead gorgeous. But he’s a very witty guy who engages with fandom through the media in positive ways. And before Mandalorian made him a mega star, he was already famous enough to be recognized in public but not so famous he couldn’t go out and enjoy things like a normal person. So there were many years of Game of Thrones fans encountering him unexpectedly and him being lovely if they said hello. That reputation followed him and really helped once he was cast in two of Hollywood’s sexier roles in recent years.

look i actually think making oberyn a sexy charming asshole with revenge burning in his heart is pretty difficult on the acting side to keep compelling and dynamic, and he was very good. i also think he was attractive in that role, but i think people's affinity for him in that was more than about his looks and that's carried him though on attractiveness otherwise.

He was pretty hot looking as Oberyn in GoT, but generally speaking his looks alone don't do much for me. But combined with his personality, voice and sense of humor... I don't know, it just works. His hotness becomes greater than the sum of its parts!
