Based on 2

How do you feel about shows/movies/games that are just endless angst? I hate them. I don't mind dramas but I need my heroes to occasionally get a win.

I'm a self-professed hurt-comfort bitch, but I have a limit. I'll read 40 chapters of a juicy angst fic, sure, but at some point if it keeps going with no healing/comfort/catharsis, I inevitably lose interest and never go back.

/highfive as another hurt-comfort bitch (is it the most common tag in my bookmarks).

+1
I LOVE hurt/comfort but it has to have both.

Endless angst is boring. It's the individualized version of the banality of evil.

I don't mind dark stuff. But I need happy endings. Or at least somewhat happy. So, Game of Thrones works but I can't watch Handmaid's Tale. It is just so helpless.

In fanfic, I only read happy endings.

I love dark stuff and unhappy endings, but when it's just wall-to-wall misery it loses me a bit. There needs to be some levity to make the bad shit have an impact. This is the main reason I didn't get on with The Last Of Us 2; it was literally a constant influx of bad shit and bad people and bad choices to the point it felt almost comical.

I like some dark stuff but there's definitely such a thing as really overdoing it. People should get what they want once in a while.

Endless angst doesn’t work for me unless there’s hope and a happy ending. Real life is too depressing, I don’t need it in fiction.

I love endless angst if the characters experiencing it are likable.

I need well placed humor to get through the dark shit. If not, at least some glimmers of hope somewhere.
