Agreed. I come to shows because I'm invested in the characters, so if the overarching storyline has some great character moments and developments along the way, alongside whatever stuff is going on from episode to episode, then great, I'm all in.

But so many shows that do season-long arcs nowadays want to pile on all these convoluted twists upon twists and whatnot, and the characters often wind up getting lost in the muddle of it all, and it's hard to stay as invested as a result.
