Ugh, I'd almost forgotten about that guy. I disliked all the Criminal Minds supervillains. and their tedious, melodramatic arcs.

I took Jenna Elfman pictures to the hairstylist's so many times when that show was airing (and after). I still love that cut.

I genuinely thought this was some weird furry version of Star Trek.

I'm actually trying to read the book now. Fascinating subject matter, but for some reason the book isn't gripping me.

Killers of the flower moon could def use some breaks in between. I thought it was good if very long. Very meta. It's a pretty subtle movie in terms of what's being acted out and honestly, having seen it in theatres, I sort of regretted the exp. Kept on getting distracted by the Taylor Swift soundtrack playing very loudly between the quiet scenes.

I get the psycho vibe from her way stronger than from Phoebe. That could be because I was aware the actress is a trash human being from early in the show’s run.

And of course he totally sucks and hasn’t been welcome anywhere for a long time. I think he’s done like one thing since he got fired from CM. Maybe two?

Jaffar/Maleficent

I had no idea this movie existed. It sounds amazing!

If you haven't watched it yet, Vinland Saga is excellent. It isn't complete (the manga is ongoing though seems to be nearing conclusion) but season two ends in a good spot that I think is satisfying as a standalone.

Also not complete but getting there -- the manga is done, and a final season has been greenlit -- but Golden Kamui is wonderful and hilarious. It does have some fanservice but not in the way you'd normally expect (there's an episode where the characters are targeted by assassins at a hot spring, so as you can probably guess a good chunk of the cast is naked for the whole episode. That chunk of the cast does not include the female characters).

Wasn't expecting to ship Sauron with anyone before I read the Silmarillion. Given all I knew before was LOTR movies and books, even though I did a lot of villain shipping, he wasn't a villain I expected to ship.

Oooo, love them. Those two were two of my earliest crushes, and I did ship them even as a kid.

What did Lisa Kudrow do?

I've been thinking about this nearly non-stop, due to conversations both here and elsewhere.

Is there anything that's so bad, that no one should ever do it? The impression I get is that no, there isn't; there's always some reason, some justification, that can be found for why some terrible thing, under some particular circumstance, is perfectly fine to do. Murder, torture, rape, genocide - none of these things is wrong as a matter of course. There are occasions when each one of them makes sense.

But the question is: how do we reliably identify those occasions? How do we determine which formula works best, given that we're all beset by biases, and that we all prefer our in-group to our out-group? If we say that it's wrong for an oppressor to brutalize the oppressed, but it's fine for the oppressed to brutalize the oppressor, how do we guarantee that we know which is which? And how do we guarantee that the roles won't reverse? If I subjugate the people who have oppressed me, then don't I become the oppressor? And after some time, don't my former oppressors gain the right to once more subjugate me?

How can oppression end, if we don't condemn the hallmarks of oppression themselves; if we merely swap positions in the hierarchy? How can we dismantle a system if we continue to use the tools of the system?

The Nightmare Before Christmas is in theaters right now and I'm going to see it on the big screen.
