T'Pring x Uhura of Star Trek TOS.

It started as a crack ship that I just took more to heart than I had originally intended.

Tony Stark/Martin Crieff (Cabin Pressure). I'm not even a huge fan of Tony Stark but I love this pairing because of one author.

I've not been really INTO ships before but idk I never expected to be as gung ho about Danny/Valerie. And tbh knowing who I used to be during the show's run.... I never expected to ship Sam/Paulina so hard either but...lol rp got me into it.

Wasn't expecting to ship Sauron with anyone before I read the Silmarillion. Given all I knew before was LOTR movies and books, even though I did a lot of villain shipping, he wasn't a villain I expected to ship.

Anime that focus on adults without fanservice

Extra bonus if it is completed. So much anime seems to be mostly about teens. Even serious ones like AoT.

Fics for that one crack pairing in your fandom which sounds insane, but have no right to be so good/well written. Prefer M/M but any is fine.

My fave A/B/O fic that's consensual and full of smut in two parts; a Who Killed Markiplier fic called 'Sodden Silk' and 'Sodden Satin'.

Excited to see Killers of the Flower Moon in my home where I can take breaks whenever I want. I found the book boring but the movie has got good reviews.

Next year, hoping the Furiosa prequel movie is as great Fury Road. Venom 3 should also be coming out and they are my guilty pleasure.

I'm still waiting for a US release of Man Suang. 😭 Also, it's not new, but we're watching Prey for Halloween this year. I haven't seen it yet but I've heard rave reviews.

Project Hail Mary. I've read the book and listened to the audiobook. Now I'm halfway through the book again, and am agog for the movie. I was like that with The Martian, too. I love the old-school sci-fi approach.

Is there anything that's beyond the pale?

(Anonymous) 2023-10-27 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
I've been thinking about this nearly non-stop, due to conversations both here and elsewhere.

Is there anything that's so bad, that no one should ever do it? The impression I get is that no, there isn't; there's always some reason, some justification, that can be found for why some terrible thing, under some particular circumstance, is perfectly fine to do. Murder, torture, rape, genocide - none of these things is wrong as a matter of course. There are occasions when each one of them makes sense.

But the question is: how do we reliably identify those occasions? How do we determine which formula works best, given that we're all beset by biases, and that we all prefer our in-group to our out-group? If we say that it's wrong for an oppressor to brutalize the oppressed, but it's fine for the oppressed to brutalize the oppressor, how do we guarantee that we know which is which? And how do we guarantee that the roles won't reverse? If I subjugate the people who have oppressed me, then don't I become the oppressor? And after some time, don't my former oppressors gain the right to once more subjugate me?

How can oppression end, if we don't condemn the hallmarks of oppression themselves; if we merely swap positions in the hierarchy? How can we dismantle a system if we continue to use the tools of the system?
