I mean, yes but also sometimes a secret is just a really general complaint and a whole thesis explaining it doesn't exactly fit on there and some people go WILD making shit up that was never said.

They should choose their wording more carefully.

Or people should not make stuff up that's clearly not written.

Or people should not make stuff up about what IS clearly written.

Yeah, it's wacky how looking at the thread for one of today's secrets where anons are insisting that the secret is totally about Tumblr tags and tagging, which were not mentioned at all, then creating drama about that.

When all the secret said was "keep politics out of fandom."

Idk what secret they read.

You mean unlike the people who are convinced OP is part of a secret anti-black society? Those people are totally not unhinged in your eyes?

When an anonymous person says "keep politics out of my XYZ," a phase used by a lot of right wingers who complain about female or LGBT characters existing at all, I can see why people might jump to that in the absence of any other info. Even if I personally don't believe that is likely the case.

When someone takes "keep politics out of my XYZ" and is like "OP definitely means people posting about Lauren Boebert on Tumblr tags" though, I'm like what? That's such a specific example to jump to from nothing, unless they are OP. Because many people say "keep politics out of my fandom" in reference to a ton of things. Video game and superhero fandoms are infamous for that, why is Boebert on Tumblr more likely than those?

They might be OP without wanting to admit they are OP, I guess? Either that or drawing some very specific conclusions from nothing

They might be OP without wanting to admit they are OP

The more I think about it the more likely this seems, instead of taking the L and saying "oops I'm OP and here's what I meant," there's this firm insistence that OP must have meant something and only that thing and not anything else the text could have meant, which people are naturally like "but why, random anon, are you insisting it has to be this?" at

Yeah, no. Not everyone is native English speaker, not everyone is professional speaker/writer. We all deserve not to be seen with the worst possible faith

This isn't the place for that, considering we have liar anon and troll anon and projection anon, etc. Woe unto anyone who wants to not be jumped on immediately.

AYRT true true
But I think wording wouldn't help in their case.

Easier said than done. It's hard to gauge how good your wording is until it's posted. Sometimes you might think you got it perfectly clear, only for the comments to go off on something only tangentially to do with what you intended to say.

Which is a learning experience. "Oh, I didn't even realize that was an interpretation, because I've never had that life experience. I have learned." Don't double down and insist that your personal experience is universal and therefore everyone else is lying and trolling.

That last sentence is the hardest part for a lot of people.

Seriously, wtf? Informing someone about their misinterpretation doesn't invalidate their life experience, it simply informs them they're off-topic. It's a learning experience for the commenters too. Just because you misread something doesn't mean that the original intent no longer exists and the secret makes must stfu. Maybe they want to know what the opinions about their actual thought are, they have that right. It doesn't mean that what you said before they corrected you has no meaning anymore. The secret maker simply didn't get anything out of it. Insisting that the original thought no longer matters because people read it differently than intended is just plain stupid.
