(Anonymous) 2023-11-12 09:13 pm (UTC)(link)But there’s a difference between that and the book bringing up racism because it informs the character’s experiences and world view and all that jazz.
At the same time, as a POC myself, sometimes I just want to read a fluffy romcom where the girl’s biggest problem is choosing between two hot guys and not racist cops or immigration issues.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-13 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)Like, as a queer person, I can't relate at all to stories about queer angst because when I came out to my parents, my mom's response was "Okay, if you get a girlfriend instead of a boyfriend we're still expecting you to bring her home for Thanskgiving." Some of us would like to read stories like that, where being queer/fat/disabled/POC isn't a source of angst.
