Agreed so goddamn much. Learn to scroll, and learn to scan and glance too. People scream about spoilers and squick, which is completely self inflicted because they refuse to learn how to scroll and glance.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-15 10:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Meh. I'm torn on this. See, squick I can ignore. But spoilers, especially on twitter, that's more difficult. As little text as a tweet has, I read that at a glance. So unmarked spoilers on twitter are not something I can easily just "glance and scroll" over without automatically reading it.

+1, squicky or spoilery images I can scroll past. But if I see text, I instantly absorb it and that's that.

It is a skill, like any skill it needs to be learned and practiced. Keep practicing.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-16 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not though. This is like telling a colourblind person to just practise to see colour. If you read something at one glance, it's not really possible to stop your brain from doing it. Granted, maybe it's possible if you're a very slow reader but nah, doesn't work.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-16 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
It is, and can be done. It is not a physical disability. Maybe if you need to slow down while you learn it, it is inconvenient. But that is not the same as not being physically possible.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-16 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
You can not unlearn to read.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-16 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
And even if you could, there is no way a short spoilery text like "OMG I can't believe (Character) dies in the latest episode!" is something you could just... not see. Unless you don't actually read any tweet on your page just in case in which case you might just as well stop using any and all social media.

Thank you secret maker!

This post brought to you by the dozens of ads from the 70's I scroll through each day which gives me cooling off time between people being Wrong on the Internet.

(great image choice!)

I acknowledge that this isn't a perfect cure all (which is big of me) but I think every little bit helps.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-15 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just that jolt of annoyance, especially if the opinion is stupid. The only posts I always let go are those that have IMO or clearly imply it. People can have their opinions. Otherwise I'll start drama and post screenshots and quotes to prove my point.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-15 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I still think selective, thorough engagement with a smaller amount of posts is the way to go.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-15 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I follow a lot of animal twitter accounts, maybe that's why fandom drama never really gets its hooks in me lol

(Anonymous) 2023-11-15 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it possible the person doing this will just make a "scroll by" association with these particular accounts, not with social media content in general? I can see this making someone even more likely to engage with stuff they probably shouldn't, just because it'll stand out more.

That picture tho

Totally not the point, but I am in love with the image used. The colors are stunning and the depiction is peak scifi dino planet vibes. I want this hanging on my wall.

SA

I found the image for sale, $4,000. *cries in poor*

(Anonymous) 2023-11-16 07:39 am (UTC)(link)
Totally agree. The bullshit I see daily on Twitter that could easily be avoided if ppl just did this *sigh*

(Anonymous) 2023-11-16 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
To a degree I agree. Though sometimes, some places are just filled with The Worst people that their shittiness feels like it's actively intruding upon your space/feed. At that point, leave the thing entirely.

I thought my Following list was good but with the shitty ways Twitter/X is used and Elon's fanboys' shitty takes are promoted, I can't fucking stand Twitter/X anymore.
I might be missing out on being more active in my fandom but I will never go back to Twitter. It fucking sucks a lot more than it ever did before Musk bought the thing.

A lot of my relatives are on FB/Meta and always posting the Community drama, stopped going there. Like, IRL I didn't really interact with my extended family because of stupid petty drama, why the fuck would I want to be around that shit on the internet?
