Agreed so goddamn much. Learn to scroll, and learn to scan and glance too. People scream about spoilers and squick, which is completely self inflicted because they refuse to learn how to scroll and glance.

Meh. I'm torn on this. See, squick I can ignore. But spoilers, especially on twitter, that's more difficult. As little text as a tweet has, I read that at a glance. So unmarked spoilers on twitter are not something I can easily just "glance and scroll" over without automatically reading it.

+1, squicky or spoilery images I can scroll past. But if I see text, I instantly absorb it and that's that.

It is a skill, like any skill it needs to be learned and practiced. Keep practicing.

(Anonymous) 2023-11-16 03:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's not though. This is like telling a colourblind person to just practise to see colour. If you read something at one glance, it's not really possible to stop your brain from doing it. Granted, maybe it's possible if you're a very slow reader but nah, doesn't work.

It is, and can be done. It is not a physical disability. Maybe if you need to slow down while you learn it, it is inconvenient. But that is not the same as not being physically possible.

You can not unlearn to read.

And even if you could, there is no way a short spoilery text like "OMG I can't believe (Character) dies in the latest episode!" is something you could just... not see. Unless you don't actually read any tweet on your page just in case in which case you might just as well stop using any and all social media.
