Pretty much, seems like AYRT just had a rant ready to go and didn't care if it matched up to the secret. I bet they've ranted the same thing on Spacebattles and other milfic boards a dozen times by this point too. But muh realism...

I disagree with them calling him a spy or that what he does is espionage at all as any information gathering he does is not clandestine. I suppose he could be called an intelligence asset, but not a spy.

Dude, that is a spy. You want to use a very specific narrow definition, everyone else is happy using the wider description. Take the loss, my man. Language changes.

They didn’t say intelligence agent.

They said intelligence asset. Which can include lots of people who have skills or information but aren’t actually spies.

Every lay person who is not a militarynerd is gonna call those people spies.

Asset and agents are basically the same to a layperson too.
