Even if it had never sold a single ticket, Batgirl would still have been more profitable than The Flash and Blue Beetle combined. They really shitcanned the wrong movie, and I have no idea why.

At least the whole mess with Coyote vs Acme shows they've sorta, kinda, maybe recognized the self harm, even if it is in a backhanded, assbackward, way.

Like in Star Wars where the Jedi say that something that happened a couple of hundred years ago is forgotten knowledge. That was within Yoda's own goddamn lifespan. His recent lifespan at that.

heh

bonus bonus points if they turn around and cry about "BNFs" who are contributing fanwork or holiday organizing exchange events or w/e and actually doing work

imo everyone is a random nobody until they start significantly doing something for the fandom, and simply existing and being around chatting and commenting like every other internet random doesn't count

shout out to mods of fandom communities who do nothing, everyone can tell who the active ones are

Just, please, leave.

I listened to an interview with someone back at the start of the writers' strike who spoke on this.

So, I'm probably missing a piece here, but my understanding is that if a studio cans a movie without releasing it, they can get a pretty significant tax write-off for it. WB's strategy the past several years has been to generate revenue by seeking tax credits/write-offs rather than through box office receipts.

And this is why I've always written fic.

Sure, it's partially because I enjoy writing and get beset by "plot bunnies" like anyone else. But the larger part of motivation is that I don't want to be simply existing in fandom. I want to be doing something for it. I want to be contributing.

It's time for you to leave, Just Leave Anon.

anon from above

huh. i don't get what's particularly objectionable about what the secret is saying. did OP strike a nerve or something?

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
i respect it

i lurk a lot of fandoms and hang out in chat and comments only, but i also am not gonna cry if nobody misses me

appreciate everybody that contributes

I’ve seen it argued from the opposite direction—this empire ruled for a thousand years, and nothing notable happened in the meantime?

Eh, I’ve seen someone become moderately famous just by reading and leaving positive comments on fic after fic after fic. (I’m convinced he was independently wealthy and had no day job to cut into his reading time—he mentioned a yacht trip once.)

But if the goal isn’t actually to show the movies, shouldn’t they be the absolute minimum budget, quality, and runtime? Like whenever a shitty barely-existing movie gets made to avoid a rights reversion.

(Anonymous) 2023-12-02 09:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think this secret is about that kinda thing, though. It seems to be more about people that do nothing and expect others to miss them when they're gone.

Someone who makes it their goal to leave positive comments on every fic is basically doing a positivity project and if people in the fandom recognize them for it, that's really cool. But let's be real, that isn't what the standard for random fandom person is doing.
