That’s encouraging about Mario because I want to see the movie. I dialled back my expectations when I found he was voicing him but the movie looks good.

Yeah, he did alright, and I get why they didn't go with Mario's old voice actor. My issue is less with him and more about how animation studios will prioritize celebrity voices over professional voice actors. Something he kind of become the face of recently.

Really? He just felt like Chris Pratt playing himself but dressed as Mario.

I mean, I didn't even know Chris Pratt voiced him until this secret. I've only seen the movie because I have an 8-year-old, and the only voice that was recognizable to me was Jack Black's (and even that I probably wouldn't have picked up on if it weren't for the Peaches song).

Is it possible that knowing it was Chris Pratt primed you to think it was coming across that way?

Nah, I didn't know he was Pratt beforehand. But I recognized as soon as he spoke in his normal voice.

I was surprised how I forgot that it was Chris Pratt when I watched the film. I had to intentionally listen to recognize his voice.
